Matrix Field

Matrix fields are form fields that create a structured grid or table-like format.

In the Matrix field, you can define the rows and columns of the grid. Rows represent different items or questions, while columns represent various options or rating scales. This allows the form submitters to provide specific answers for each combination of row and column.

Creating a Matrix Field

This is how you can build a matrix field.

  1. Click on build tab and search for Matrix in search under Elements.

  2. Select Matrix field.

  3. A default matrix field with two rows and two columns will appear.

  4. Under matrix properties, you can change question, description, rows and columns.

  5. To add new rows & columns edit the existing values.

  6. Multiple answers: When created, the matrix field allows the form submitters to select one column value for each row, to select multiple values, enable the Multiple answers toggle under settings.

When to use a Matrix field

When deciding between a multiple-choice field and a matrix field, it's important to consider the specific requirements of your data collection. While both options can be useful, matrix fields offer distinct advantages in certain situations.

For example, imagine a form asking people to sign up for a new product when it's released or asking for early access. In this case, using a matrix field can be advantageous. The matrix field would allow the form creator to specify rows for products such as neetoPlanner, neetoReplay, etc., and columns for subscription types such as "Launch" and "Early Access". The form submitters can choose between "Launch", "Early Access" or both.

Matrix fields can help gather data in a structured manner, especially when dealing with multiple criteria or dimensions. They provide a clear and organized format that simplifies data collection.

Whether collecting customer feedback, conducting surveys or managing product sign-ups, the matrix field offers an efficient way to capture information across various dimensions. With their clear and intuitive format, respondents can navigate through the grid and provide specific answers for each row and column combination.

In conclusion, matrix fields are a helpful feature in form builders because they let people collect data in a structured and organized way. They are versatile and easy to use, contributing to more effective data collection, analysis, and decision-making.
